Kona International Market

Kona International Market

Located about five minutes north Scooter Brothers, the Kona International Market is a great place to shop for island-inspired goods and get a bite to eat. There are about 70 stores that sell everything from inexpensive t-shirts to fairly expensive hand-carved curios. The food court has a handful of restaurants.

Kailua Bay

Kailua Bay is at the heart of Kailua-Kona and just a minute north of Scooter Brothers. The pier is a nice place to enjoy people watching and get a nice view of Kailua-Kona and the Kona coast.

Honl's Beach

Honl's Beach

Honl’s is a popular boogie boarding and sunbathing beach at the south end of Kailua-Kona. Go south on Alii Drive about a mile from Scooter Brother and you’ll see it on your right. The beach area has some large shade trees and some sand. The lava close to the shore makes it a poor place for swimming, but when the surf’s up, there are some good waves for boogie boarding at the north end.

Ali'i Gardens Marketplace

Ali'i Gardens Marketplace

Located on the mauka (mountain) side of Alii Drive about two miles from town, the Alii Gardens Marketplace is a nice place to shop for souvenirs and enjoy a drink while sitting in the shade.

White Sands Beach

White Sands Beach

Noted for large waves breaking close to the shore, White Sands Beach has some of the best boogie boarding in West Hawaii. There is also a nice sandy area during from spring through late fall. Most locals avoid White Sands during the high surf in the winter.

Kahalu'u Beach

Kahalu'u Beach

Kahalu’u Beach is the best place for beginners to enjoy snorkeling and surfing. At the south end of the beach (near the big parking lot) the waters are full of tropical fish and green sea turtles. The protected shoreline makes this a nice place enjoy Hawaii’s ocean life without high waves or strong current. The north end of Kahalu’u is a place where many tourists try surfing for their first time. This is where all the surf schools take their novices.

Keauhou Bay

Keauhou Bay

Keauhou Bay is at the end of Scooter Brothers permitted use area. Here you’ll find a lovely protected bay. Not really appropriate for snorkeling or swimming (unless you are fearless of boat traffic), the bay is a nice place to relax. There are also kayak tours available.
